Early last month the Library attended a hearing held by the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding the plans for the new Roselle Public Library. The scope of the review included the overall site plan, parking spaces, lighting, setbacks, and the building’s exterior design. After review the commission voted to recommend the Village approve our plan, which the Village Board did at their regular meeting on December 8th.

At this month’s regular meeting of the Library Board of Trustees, Board members voted to authorize library staff and consultants to finalize the construction documents that will be used both for the permitting and bid process. As of writing this we are on track to issue bid packages publicly the first week of February. These bids will be broken into individual trades and the process will enable the Library to receive competitive pricing for the overall project.

Additionally, progress has been made toward executing the property transfer agreement between the Library and Village, but it is still not yet finalized. We hope to complete this process next month. As long as we continue to meet our timeline goals we are looking forward to a mid-to-late Spring groundbreaking at Maple Avenue.

With 2025 at an end we concluded more than a year’s worth of efforts during the design and pre-construction phase of this project, during which time staff, community members, and the Board have weighed in with feedback on an ongoing basis. In a few short months construction should begin and our progress will become much more visible once it is underway. We anticipate opening the new library campus at Maple Avenue in mid-to-late 2027.
