YOUTH SERVICES ASSISTANT
(EARLY CHILDHOOD FOCUS)

Part Time (25 Hours Average / Week) 
Non-Exempt 

The Roselle Youth Services Department is looking for a passionate and proactive Youth Services Assistant to join our department on a part-time basis as we excitedly work toward the construction of a new facility, expected to be completed in 2027. Our department oversees our reference desk, programming, outreach, 3D printer services, departmental social media, and other tasks that keep us busy, and our preparation for a new building means we are experiencing a lot of ongoing change, making flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor a must!
 

Primary duties will involve creating outstanding events and experiences for our community by:

  • Providing reference and readers’ advisory assistance on our service desk 
  • Creating displays 
  • Selecting for assigned collection areas 
  • Planning and presenting engaging programming for children from birth through sixth grade, with a focus on Early Childhood programming (0-6 years)  
  • Planning and presenting a quarterly All Ages program for children and their caregivers 
  • Planning and presenting a weekly Family Storytime (0-6 years)
  • Overseeing the maintenance of the department’s coloring sheet station and PLA early literacy calendars
  • Providing creative assistance on social media posts alongside select Youth Services peers to highlight departmental programs, services, and resources

In addition to departmental duties, this staff member will have the opportunity to participate in professional development.

Required 

High school diploma or equivalent required 

A minimum of one year of paid or voluntary experience working directly with children and families 
 

Preferred 

  • LTA or other relevant Associate’s degree 

This position requires availability for daytime, evening, and weekend hours and the flexibility to adapt the schedule according to the needs of the department.
 

The schedule will operate on a rolling four-week basis, with one regular evening every week and one Saturday / Sunday weekend shift every four weeks. 

Week 1: Monday, 1-9pm; Tuesday, 9am-5pm; Wednesday,9am-5pm 

Week 2: Monday, 1-9pm; Tuesday, 9am-5pm; Wednesday,9am-5pm 

Week 3: Monday, 1-9pm; Tuesday, 9am-2:30pm; Wednesday, 9am-5pm; Saturday, 9am-5pm

Week 4: Sunday, 12:30-5pm; Monday, 1-9pm; Tuesday, 9am-5pm; Wednesday, 1-9pm 

 

Salary  

Compensation ranging from $17.00 to $21.20 per hour, depending on qualifications and in accordance with internal equity.  

  

Benefits 

After a short waiting period, benefits include vacation, sick, paid holidays, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
